“A journey shows us not only the world, but how we fit in it.”
I’m always pleased when I find art that inspires me – in terms of travel, life, dance. This piece was shared with me by Kathryn Jennex. It resonates with my vagabonding experience (it’s been nearly a year).

Journey’s are not realized at their endpoints, as if we win a prize upon reaching our destination. It is the act of wandering and wondering that empowers us.
The world we inhabit is not a smooth and pretty object, uniform and perfect. Rather it is fuzzy, shifting and knotted. A tenebrous web of roots that grow, seek new routes, retreat.
A journey is the exploration of that web. The testing of new routes, cracks and crevices. We only know how deep we can go once we journey into the unknown, with all its twists and turns. It is shadowed and daunting, in the darkness our light shines the brightest.
Our discovery is not a place or a thing, it is a path. To fit is to shine your light on its edges. To not just walk the straight and narrow. To stumble in the dark and brave the haunted woods.
“I soon realized that no journey carries one far unless, as it extends into the world around us, it goes an equal distance into the world within.” – Lillian Smith
